Phantoms in the brain - A television documentary about the human brain. Years ago, while on a psychology course, I read up on the, then, latest research on a condition called Korsokoff's psychosis, a condition which causes short-term memory to be all but destroyed -- often by alcohol abuse. To me, even then, it seemed probable that although the brain was complex the underlying system would turn out to be simple. I have a feeling we will end up thinking: why on earth didn't I think of that! I have another suspicion that when the brain's underlying system is finally understood AI will be easily achievable. Keywords:
