There is no doubt that osteoporosis is a disabling disease with one third of women and 8 per cent of men having a lifetime risk of developing it. Osteoporosis is a gradual weakening of the bones caused by a reduction in bone density. Unfortunately it has virtually no outward symptoms until it is well established.

According to government figures hip fractures cause more than 1150 premature deaths each month in the UK. By the age of 75 around half the population have osteoporosis, because as we get older our bones become more fragile and likely to break or fracture. Stress Questions You Need To Answer
I have written previous articles on how to identify your stress triggers, and I thought it would be useful to also look a bit deeper. Sometimes we have other causes for our stress that we don't really consider because perhaps it happened a while ago, or has been going on for so long that we have almost accepted them as a regular part of life. So let's look at whether your stress is temporary or long-term.

Two Top Techniques for Stress Reduction
Stress can take many forms, and I have always found it best to have a multi-disciplinary approach to it. Some things always work, some work some of the time, and then lose their effectiveness so any stress reduction programme has to offer you plenty of options.

Stress and the family
Everyone's response to stress is different and one of the factors that can affect how you deal with stress may well be genetic. How well in general do people in your family deal with the every stresses of life? Are you a happy go lucky crowd who deal with stresses as they arise or are they ignored and not spoken about?

Stress and adrenaline
When you are stressed, the well known 'fight or flight' mechanism automatically comes into play. It doesn't matter if the stress is real - a potential mugging - or just perceived - such as the fear of losing your job or your relationship. The response is exactly the same and it triggers a whole range of bodily changes to help you deal with it. What can help is to understand exactly what is going on.

The Immediate Way to REduce Stress
If we are feeling out of balance our natural instinct is to try and do something to make it better. This usually involves us trying to either stimulate or sedate our senses with things like coffee, alcohol, sugar, tobacco and drugs. Many of these solutions will work in the short-term, but if your system is overstressed they are not the answer for long-term stress-free living.

What Makes Life Worth Living?
What makes life worth living may seem a flip title but I mean this in all seriousness as I came across a truly startling statistic this week. According to the World Health Organisation, around 1 million people die of suicide every year, the tenth largest cause of death globally. Awful enough, but what startled me was that more die by suicide than by any other type of violence, including armed conflict.

Kiss Procrastination Goodbye!
Have you heard of K.I.S.S? It is much used in business and particularly in training, and it stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. Now I agree with keeping it simple in principle, but calling me stupid is not going to help tackle procrastination.
