Article Summary: Don't get caught up in the eternal debt of student loans, try another student finance option such as a scholarship or government grant instead.

Attention all college and pre-college students: Do not believe for one second that taking out a loan is the only way you can pay for college! When you need financial aid, for whatever reason, there are better methods of getting it than applying for a private or federal loan. Student loans are burdensome to pay back because of the fact that their interest is eternally increasing. Rather than take out a loan, try a scholarship or a grant instead!

Scholarships and grants are free. Nevertheless, you must set aside some time to search and apply for them.

Scholarships: Various organizations and businesses such as the Lions Club, Optimist, Chamber of Commerce and the Girls & Boys Club give scholarships to students. Scholarships are offered by the military, and certain churches and unions also.

The internet is vast and loaded with information. Hundreds and thousands of scholarships can be found on the web if you just look for them. Simply type in scholarships on any search engine. Or you can try Scholarships.com. This site can help you locate scholarships that match you and your interests!

The majority of the scholarships found here require an essay to be written. Dont worry about this! Look for one that suites you and then sit down and start typing. Before you send it in, have a someone you trust proofread it.

To find other scholarships check the university you are applying for. Oftentimes theyll give scholarships to those with high GPAs or ACT scores. They usually give out scholarships for athletic abilities as well.

If you havent graduated from high school yet, ask your Financial Aid office about scholarships. Your counselor would also be a great person to ask, as he or she will know know your needs better.

The most important thing you need to do is to start immediately. Look for scholarships and ask people you know if they are aware of any. Who knows, you just might run into a gold mine!

Grants, like scholarships, are wonderful because you never have to pay them. They are given depending on the financial need, race, association, or special interest of the student. Private groups, educational institutions, and the federal government all give out grants.

Government grants are given based on on the students income. In order to apply for one you must go to FAFSA.com and fill out an application or you can pick up an application from your high school or college financial aid office. Depending on which one you use, your Student Aid Report will be sent to you within 3-6 weeks.
