Article Summary: A child’s brain is like a dry sponge absorbing every knowledge so fast and so quickly, but we must also consider and be fully aware of the certain danger of their current stage, regarding on what types of information we are feeding them like for example, the television shows they are watching, websites they are surfing, magazines and books they are reading, radios or types of music they are listening, and most particularly the people and friends they are with and even the way we approach and handle them.
I found myself comparing my predicable childhood years with the children here at Bright Rock School, and I told to myself how blessed they are for having a very good opportunity of the kind of education, training and guidance they are gaining from this institution. I am not trying to say that I never had that kind of teachings when I am still in grade school, perhaps in one point or another is the lack of equipments and facilities. Indeed, their training is extremely advanced specifically children nowadays start learning computers at very young age, where they could explore the universe and study it in just one click of a mouse, imagine a college level program in my days were already being taught in grade school and believe me you will be amazed on how fast they could cope up with each lesson and asked for more.
Like for example, I had this one student so curious trying to learn “Adobe Photoshop” a computer software used specially in photo editing and lay outing, without any formal training with such complicated commands surely even adults will have difficulty in learning it, but with her ability to observe how people around her do it, mixed up with her determination, eagerness, and fully fueled up with encouragement from the teachers up to her parents… well, she did actually learned it on her own.
A child’s brain is like a dry sponge absorbing every knowledge so fast and so quickly, but we must also consider and be fully aware of the certain danger of their current stage, regarding on what types of information we are feeding them like for example, the television shows they are watching, websites they are surfing, magazines and books they are reading, radios or types of music they are listening, and most particularly the people and friends they are with and even the way we approach and handle them.
Why? Now, that’s the question. I had heard one of the proverbs in the bible that says “Train up your child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Actually, this is true; whatever teaching we give to the children surely his/her future depends on it. But for some of us don’t really took these things seriously perhaps we just do not see it in a bigger picture or the difference that it would make, our lack of knowledge regarding Christian values has a devastating impact for our young ones, or maybe this is because we are also victims of the incompetence of our own previous generation.
Education is not all about books and mathematical equations it is also about survival, independency, skills, and personality development. Even though, that I don’t have a child of my own I always believe that the ways and the characteristics we are teaching them most importantly to be a God fearing being is vital to a child’s future. Bear in mind that these kids will soon be our political leaders, doctors, teachers, caregivers or anyone that there hearts wishes to become, but without proper education and values… we could expect a world worst than ours.
As what I have observed for past months here in BRS, shaping lives in not an easy profession or a one way task. Teachers and parents must learn to find grounds to work on this together; some parents blame the teacher when something wrong with the kid in terms of behavior and some failing grades, they often react in so many ways, ask so many questions but did missed one tiny thing, their part. Please let me ask you one single question, as parent do you practice Christian values at home and carefully filter your kid’s environment, interest, types of friends they have and most importantly do you model them as good human beings? If the answer is yes, then that’s good. But if not, then maybe you should consider this as a wake up call.
