Article Summary: In addition to all the financial benefits of starting a business, there are a number of non-monetary benefits of launching your next venture. Here are some of the reasons why I continue on the path of entrepreneurship.

I've been following some answer boards recently and have been amazed at how many people ask the same simple question: should I start a business? I've answered a few of them and in the process have been forced to contemplate this question more seriously. Should I start a business?

I've been in business for myself now going on 4 years and I have my reasons for continuing down this same path, but should everyone share my same fate? Obviously the answer to that is no. Everyone must choose for themselves whether they pick the blue pile or the red one. I know which one I have chosen and I'd like to share with you some of my reasons for taking the plunge a few years ago.

Starting a business is beneficial to so many people. Most entrepreneurs can see directly those that benefit from our businesses. Jobs are created (a benefit to the employee), additional taxes are generated (a benefit to the government), bills are paid and supplies purchased (a benefit to other businesses) and checking accounts and other banking products are secured (a benefit to the financial world). But I often wonder how many entrepreneurs have given much thought to the non-monetary benefits of starting a business?

In addition to all the financial reasons of starting a business (more taxes, jobs, etc), entrepreneurship is one of the most patriotic things someone can do. Literally thousands and thousands of people have given their lives fighting for our freedom; the freedom to pursue our dreams and passions; our pursuit of happiness. Are we being selfish is we don't pursue that path with vigor? Will their great sacrifices be in vain if we don't take full advantage of everything life has to offer?

To live life without actively pursuing your dreams and goals does nothing to honor the great men and women who gave their lives for the cause of freedom.

Starting a small business instills pride and confidence in people. It gives hope to those who haven't felt it before. It teaches hard work. It teaches sacrifice and self sustaining habits. It pushes us to our limits. It spreads wealth and influential power more evenly among the common folk. It gives people pride in something that they care deeply about; something in which they are fully vested.

So should you start a business?

We'll I guess my short answer to you is that depends. You need to make that choice for yourself but remember that starting a business is one of the greatest things you could do for your country because it truly does help to develop stronger, passionate and more committed citizens.

So which pill are you going to take?
