Article Summary: Remember that little red wagon you always wanted?

So, one day, almost a month ago, I am sitting in this bar at a local marina enjoying a beer and the glorious sunset. I'm minding my own business, musing about all the things I am grateful for having in my life.

Along comes a holiday sailor. Orders himself a drink. You can always tell the tourists. They order the drinks that come with little umbrellas. He engages me in conversation. After we get past the part where he explains that he is on a two week sailing holiday with some buddies and I explain that I live here, he asks, "So what do you do?"

"Mostly I think; although sometimes I manage not to," I answer.

"I mean, what do you do to earn a living?" he clarifies.

"I write down what I think about, then I sell those packaged ideas on the Internet."

"People actually buy what you think about?" he is wonderfully incredulous.

"Actually, I attempt to get people to buy into doing their own creative thinking." I explain. "I endeavor to sell people on their own creative potential."

"So, what do you write about then? Are these books you sell online or something?"

"Yes. I sell eBooks. I write about how your thinking creates your reality. You know, like Think and Grow Rich." I say, giving him some solid ground to stand on.

"And people actually just buy that positive thinking kind of stuff?"

"Well, sometimes, yes, they just buy it; and sometimes you have to trick them into it," I say, "People aren't always clear on what they want or need. They need to be convinced."

"So convince me then; because I'd never buy some book full of promises."

"Buy me a beer and I'll convince you." I challenge him.

"Sure. Bartender, another beer for my friend here and another banana daiquiri for me."

"What do you most want out of life?" I ask, after I'd had a drink of my fresh beer.

"Why?"

"So I can tell you how to get it." I answer.

"You're kidding me, right?"

"Nope. Guaranteed. For the price of a couple of drinks, I'll tell you exactly how to get what you want."

"OK., I'll bite. How?"

"First you have to tell me your heart's desire."

"What do you mean?"

"What are you most passionate about having show up in your life? What are you lusting over?"

"Right now?" he is still avoiding me.

"Right now. Today. Yesterday. Tomorrow. What's burning in your heart? Do you remember when you were a kid and there was that bike or little red wagon (or whatever) that you just had to have? Do you remember that feeling?"

"Yeah." He says wistfully.

"OK. What is that feeling attached to right now?"

"Nothing in particular."

"Would you like it to be?"

"Why?"

"So you can experience the joy of getting it."

He looks at his watch. "I've got to go now. Meet my buddies for dinner. Nice talking to you."

"OK. Thanks for the beer." I say. I hand him my card. "In case you change your mind." I offer my biggest smile.

3 weeks later, two days ago, I get an email from him, "I've been thinking..."

Having a firm grip on reality is like living your whole life in the same little town you were born into. You would have no idea how wonderful it is to experience the rest of the world.
