Not only can you make money buying and selling websites, you can actually buy or sell domain names. Whether you sell a complete site or a domain name you will need to push it to the buyer’s registrar giving them control over it. This can be done a number of ways to ensure safety for both the seller and the buyer. First off you should agree on a payment method, many sites that give you the ability to auction or sell your domain names often have a reputation meter. If they have, you should ensure that the buyer has built a good reputation and not been know for scamming people.

Once you have decided all that you have to login to your registrar (who you registered the domain with) and start the process off. If you registered it many years ago there is a big chance that you will have forgot it, if you have that is fine, you can do a simple whois search in order to find it in order to login using the username and password you set up when you originally signed up. If you have also forgotten them, fill in the ‘forgot login details’ form and they will send to your email address.

Once you are ready to push the domain to the successful buyer there are two main ways to do it, you can start the process off yourself by either entering the username of the buyer (if they use the same registrar which can work out cheaper as you wont have to pay the fee’s, or at a cheaper rate) or you can find out which company they want to use and enter their ISP (this will often be given to you to avoid any mistakes). If you mistype anything the domain will get returned to your account but you have to be careful as once you press the submit button it will leave your account so you have no control over it.

You can then ask your buyer to login and accepted the transfer, this will then complete it and you just have to wait anything from 1-10 days for it to change over. There is another way which is easier for the buyer, if you give them your details they can request a transfer. This will then give you a notification in your registrar, along with an activation code which the buyer has to enter in order for the transfer to begin.
