Owning a Golf Cart - written by Nevets Notrom

When I was working in a customer service company some time ago, I had an officemate who lives in a subdivision less than a kilometer away from the office. Beside his subdivision is a golf course where we often hang out in the weekends. It was always a delight to see him arriving at work in a golf cart. He said he saves quite a bit driving that thing to the office every day. After office hours, he was always a hit when he parks his rig at the mall parking lot beside our workplace.

Maybe owning a cart for myself will prove to be economical. Renting a golf cart every time I need one is costing me quite a bit. I can even see it as a means of transportation in a retirement community. I remember my friend in the mall parking lot with his cart. Moving around that huge facility and looking for a place to park was never a problem to him and his rig.

A new golf cart would be nice but I can also be comfortable in a used one. A brand new machine would really cost me a lot but I will be getting a full factory warranty with it. I will also be assured that I will be taking care of it properly and have regular maintenance from the first day on.

A new one would probably cost me around $5000 to $10000 depending on its features and accessories. The more add-ons, the higher the price goes. I can be extremely frugal and strip away the bare necessities and Id probably get a new one for under $5000, but I dont think Id be comfortable in that.

On the other hand, a used cart can really go easy on my pocket. I can look for a local individual party but I am not familiar with golf mechanics so that might not be a great idea. I might be able to find a local golf cart dealer that can provide me some type of repair service deal that comes with a used cab.

A used rig's cost widely fluctuates depending on the model, features, and the current condition of the equipment. I might be able to find one that is still in very good running condition. It will be a good idea to have a trusted mechanic take a look at it before i make my final decision.

Should I go for a gas powered or electric golf cart? An electric car I know is relatively easier to maintain than a gas cart but I do have to change the batteries every few years and that would cost me around $500 or so every time. My officemate told me that over a period of time, the effort and cost maintaining a gas or an electric driven cab works out pretty much the same. I guess it wouldnt really matter much to me then.

Should I go for a new cart or an old one? Is an electric cab better that a gas powered machine? I was advised that in any type, with the proper care and regular maintenance, you can be assured of excellent performance for ten years - even more.
