Mentoring - Each One Help Someone

It has been awhile since I last wrote anything. It takes time to sit still and gather one’s thoughts and even then you wonder if you really have anything to say. But on that note, I do! This year has brought endless possibilities to our lives. Our business continues to grow as more people think of GaMaJa Productions for their deejay entertainment needs and we are truly thankful. This year we were blessed to share a magazine cover with some of the brightest sisters and brothers in Central PA who were recognized as being a part of the “Catalyst for Change.” The edition was called “Profiles in Excellence – Success in Diversity.” Some of you may wonder how this all happened. Let me tell you it certainly wasn’t because we didn’t work hard to get where we are and more hard work continues but being in the right place at the right time can also play a part in the equation.

A couple of years ago, we met a very special woman who made a tremendous impact in our lives. We met at a diversity network luncheon and attended a breakout session of which she was on the panel. It was about small business growth and ways to help in the process. The basis of the session was how to develop a business plan and obtain a small business loan. The reality is not all small businesses fit this criteria or what I call the “cookie-cutter approach” and need to borrow money to operate or even to be successful. Then what we wanted to know was how to get customers. Vera Cornish heard us and at the end of the session she spoke with us and provided a list of what we could do to get customers for our business that covered A-Z. That she would take the time to speak with us was greatly appreciated but the fact that she heard what we felt was missed in the session spoke volumes. Thus began a wonderful kinship that continues to flourish to this day.

The one thing you may or may not know about Vera is that her faith is her shield – a shield she proudly wears. God truly blessed her and she passes the blessings on. When you get the chance to take her seminar on growing small business wealth and she shares her life-story in her own words you realize that you are in the presence of greatness but she also makes you feel special. She cares about you and your ability to obtain success and how unselfish is that?

Yes, Vera Cornish of Cornish & Associates continues to touch many lives as she helps them go about “Conducting The Business of Life.” We could reproduce her biography but that you could read for yourselves on her website www.cornishandassociates.com. Instead, we wanted to give you our story of how a mentor can help make the difference in lives. Sometimes when we get “to the top” we don’t always reach back and help others up. Not Vera. She puts you in touch with her network of people. She introduces you to the movers and shakers that she has met on her journey. Any of you reading this that have attended her business breakfast series can hear her saying “don’t get it twisted, the reason why we are in the room is to do business; now lets get up and start talking.” Vera, we thank you for caring and sharing. Remember that mentoring is our way to help someone up!
