Pool tables can speak to you, you just need to know what it is your listening for, but all you need do is listen! What they tell you, is about the people languishing around them, and depending on your agenda, this can be very useful information, it just depends what you want to know and if it can be used to your advantage.

Hearing without seeing, is only for people without eyesight. If you are fortunate enough to be a sighted person, take advantage of this and look at what the pool table has to show you too. It shows you about posturing, arrogance, integrity, shyness and values, the spectrum of the human condition. This is vital information for a pool hustler, as he needs to interpret this posturing.

Learning from a pool table, means you have to regard it as more than inanimate furniture (which it is and isn't). Everyone has a measure of the hustler in them and when you play pool, you should engage to win with the mind of a hustler, in order to get the best out of the game.

The way in which others articulate themselves around the pool table (languishing), and observation of this provides the hustler with empirical knowledge. They become critically self aware as well as aware of others, becoming an observer rather than a participant. They learn to read signs in speech and activity including body language.

The way a player leans against a pool table or over it can teach you much about them and how god a player they are. It may even tell you what is most likely to put them off: Whether they stand with their legs apart or together, if they slouch or stand up straight, their balance and the way they watch others play, or if they are completely self absorbed. This tells you about their game, and this is generally in the form of interaction with the pool table.

Everyone who plays pool is a liar, some more than others, but the lying, thieving whore, or blatant idiot comes out of everyone who plays this game. The pool table is the only feature of the game (furniture though it is) that doesn't lie. Gaming tables tell the truth, it is the players telling the lie.

They shape of pool tables is rectangular and this is particularly interesting, as it allows for some interesting options. Interesting options in terms of taking control of the game! In terms of manners, there are a number of ways to be polite around the pool table, and standing behind someone taking a shot is not polite. But you can be polite and stand next to them or in front of them and actually be polite and intimidating simultaneously.

What you don't want is for the table to expose you. You don't want anyone knowing or the table telling what you or your game is about. You have to wear your 'poker face' so to speak and you do this by either not languishing around the table, or languishing successfully around the pool table. There is a subtle difference.

If you are able to successfully communicate with pool tables, you will be a successful pool player. It is merely a case of looking, listening and understanding the language of the table and the game. If you get it, you can learn some valuable lessons, not only about playing pool however.
