Article Summary: Relationships are like flowers You have to nurture them so that they get to grow and spring out healthy and vibrant blossoms

Relationships are like flowers. You have to nurture them so that they get to grow and spring out healthy and vibrant blossoms. Just because you have already established ties with your friend, does not mean you can leave merely leave it at that. Like flowers, friendships could wilt and die if not properly taken cared of.

In looking after flowers, you make sure that they get enough rays of sunlight, sufficient showers of water and for some people a few short kind words can actually cause buds to open up and bloom. But how do you nurture relationships? By relationships, we do not only mean the one that you have with your spouse, or your lover but it encompasses the ones you have with your parents, your siblings, your children, your neighbor, your pets and even your work.

The secret to any relationship or perchance to any endeavor is happiness and contentment. However, it is important for one to know and to understand that your happiness is your responsibility, yours alone. A lot of relationships fail because one pins his or her happiness on the other person. One rationalizes that he is happy because of the other person or for the reason that he got the job he wanted. This line of thinking is a great stumbling block because it is not only the relations that are damaged when the relationship fails but the dependent person could very well find himself in a great deal of depression and loss of faith and confidence. It is thus fundamental that you find your own happiness first - love yourself first and strengthen your self-belief. That way you maintain your poise and self-assurance even if your relations should not go as smoothly as you would have wanted it. This would also allow you to heal and move on much easier after a break up or a loss.

Communication is the key in all relationships. Many relationships go on the brink because people are not open to their partners or to their friends. We know all too well that each one of us is unique in his or her ways. This means a different way of thinking, of acting or of responding to emotions and situations. As close as you may be to your best friend or to your lover to the extent that you can finish each others' sentences, it does not necessarily follow that he can read everything on your mind and understand all your moods without you saying something. Talk. And when you do, try to be honest at all times. Ask any friend and they will tell you that your relationship still exists because they trust that you will tell them the naked truth however unfortunate it may be. Trust is a basic ingredient in relationships and it is one of main causes why relationships last as long as they should. Breaking trust through lies will likely equate to broken relationships.

It is common that you will have a number of arguments and conflicts at some stage in your relationships. But quarrels and fights are not reasons to end your relationships. They can always be mended. Learn to forgive, make up and start over. Disputes keep relationships healthy as you get to learn something new from your partner after each one. Another thing, the experience will get you to accept and understand his or her imperfections and compromise to make the relationship stronger and deeper.
