I am sure quite a few of us would have never heard of Joost. It is so synonymous with juiced that one may get confused on the first sound of Joost. What really happens in Joost TV is that TV shows and other forms of video clips are distributed over the internet. Peer-peer TV technology is used in distributing the video clips over the internet. Designed by Janus Friis and Nicklaus Zennstrom of the Skype and Kazaa fame, Joost TV is fast catching up on the ladders of popularity.

What are the benefits of Joost TV?

1) Importantly, Joost technology turns your computer into a virtual Television. You would be able to watch all the images off your computer itself. Now, ideally for viewing images or shows you would have used your television set. Joost TV almost eliminates the need for you to watch images or shows off the TV as you can view them off the computer itself.

2) Joost TV follows a different scheme of content distribution. Basically, most streaming technologies use a server to feed the signals to clients. In case of Joost, the servers send signals to the clients and the clients in turn pass on the signals to their downstream and so on. Basically, you could say that Joost combines signal transmission and reception with MLM mode of marketing.

3) Sports, with this TV, you would be able to watch all latest action of ESPN. This has been made possible because of a deal signed by Joost in May 2007. As per this deal, Joost has rights to distribute signals from the ESPN games including European Footbal.

Is all perfect with Joost?

One question that everyone would want to ask on Joost is “Are there no problems at all with Joost? There is so much involvement of technology and software that each of the entities working to provide signals need to be spot on. What really happens is that with Joost, these entities are not working the way the way how it was envisioned. By saying so, I mean that when you click on a program to view it, it would in all probability throw up a message. This program is not available currently.

For now, Joost has done with the Beta implementation phase and is currently open to all users. Based on the initial results and the feedback, I must say that Joost would need to do a lot of trial runs on the signal transmission and reception channels if it desires to mount a serious challenge on Web TV or Internet TV. I guess it will be safe to say that the fundamentals for a new way of using your computer have already been laid.
