Sheds are often used for one purpose and one purpose alone which of course is to store your tools and other items that you don't wish to store inside your home. A garden shed in fact is perfect for storing your gardening tools and fertilizers as well as items that are bulkier such as a lawn mower and any other item which will be used to maintain and take good care of your garden or lawn.

It certainly will pay to locate your shed where there is less traffic and where there is little risk involved in terms of falling trees or direct exposure to the winds. If it is a garden shed that you want then you will have in it a convenient place in which to keep those items of gardening that must always be within easy reach of the gardener. In addition, a garden shed is also useful as it will protect the items stored in it from the elements and this means that there will be less risk of the items being damaged by sun and rain.

It is also necessary that you keep your shed well organized. This in turn means locating the shed in a backyard where it will be out of harm's way. If you do not wish to store items in a garage or in your basement then these items can easily be placed in a shed. Of course, you must ensure having a strong lock on the door to the shed so as to ensure that the items cannot be stolen and keeping the shed locked also means that children cannot gain access to the items that can cause them bodily harm.

Once you start loading your shed with items you will soon notice that things will begin to pile up and often many items that have been stored in the shed will remain there without being used for a year or more. Once in a while it becomes necessary to identify the non-used items that must then be removed either through donating them or simply throwing them away. This will help you keep your shed well organized and you will also be able to free up space that can be used to store other items.

Garden sheds are wonderful for storing smaller items of gardening supplies and of course to keep things organized inside the shed you will have to make use of shelves. A shed that does not have shelves will not lend it well to good organization and so this is an aspect that deserves special attention. You can either build shelves or purchase them.

These shelves can then be used to store smaller items which will then be easy to locate and hard to lose. And, those items that you use frequently must be stored on the shelves within easy reach. You can also think about installing hooks on the side walls of the shed and use these hooks for hanging your shovels and rakes. Otherwise, if you simply stand-up the shovel and rake they might easily topple over and make the shed look much unorganized. In addition, when you hang the shovel and rake they are easier to remove and replace.

Be sure that you also make use of plastic containers which will protect your grass seed and fertilizer from the effects of excess humidity. These containers when filled with seeds, fertilizers and soil can then safely be placed on a shelf which will also make the shed look better organized.

Sheds are also great for storing away your lawn mower and weed whackers. Just make sure that such items are well spaced apart as that will make it easy to remove the items without disturbing other items in the shed.
