Your autoresponder service is basically what lets you maintain an email list, and lets you schedule automatic email messages to be sent to that list anytime including the ability to broadcast messages anytime you want. It is the tool you require to keep in touch with your subscribers on a regular basis and whenever you want with very little effort!

It has been statistically proven that you will generally not get a sale on someone's first visit to your website, therefore it is crucial that you maintain contact with that person and entice then back a number of times before they will part with any of their hard earned cash! This means following up with regular messages after your subscriber has signed up.

To keep in regular contact, you'll need to set up your autoresponder service (offered by companies such as www.monsterresponse.com or www.Aweber.com). The code you'll get from your autoresponder service can just be pasted into your web page and if your service doesn't provide any editing features, you should be able to make it look nice yourself by editing the HTML or applying styles with a web page style sheet.

But what does your autoresponder actually do? In a nutshell, your autoresponder maintains your list of names and email addresses. You can set up messages that new list members get automatically when they join the list (you do the work once, and then every new member gets the messages without you having to do anything). The purpose is to start building a relationship with your list. Your first message is likely to be a simple one thanking them again for their purchase and giving them a link to the download page.

The autoresponder messages should be split between offering free useful information and promoting either your own or affiliate products. The key messages here are:

* Use a general rule of sending great tips and advice 75% of the time, and promoting products 25% of the time. People will get annoyed if you constantly just plug products and never deliver on your free hints and tips to becoming successful.
* Do keep in touch regularly. If you never send out any emails then your list will forget who you are. Don't be afraid to keep in touch without overdoing it. Sending out daily emails can be too much and subscribers will be overloaded with information whereas monthly emails will cause people to forget about you!

Remember that your list is your best pipeline of future sales. It is much easier to convert someone who is already interested in your product than to go and find a new lead.
