Have you ever gone to replace your tooth at a dentist's clinic and come out disappointed and extremely hurt as all of a sudden pain has jetted in, your friends on the other side are holding their amusement because the crown looks shoddy and weird. Well, this has happened so many times and not because the dentist is a quark but due to poor crowning technologies.

One tested and tried new technology is called CEREC. It stands for Ceramic Reconstruction and works by replacing the bad unused tooth with a compatible enamel Cerec tooth.

CEREC is made of almost similar material of enamel as the original tooth and therefore creates a comfortable feel on the surface of the gum and enjoys long-lasting comradeship with neighboring teeth. Also important to mention is the fact that while for other type of restorations like porcelain, gold and the direct ones like composite and amalgam, take about two weeks to complete restoration and therefore increases the number of trips to the dentist, CEREC only happens once, only one trip, virtually a relaxation period of twenty minutes.

It also lasts for a long period not to mention that it eventually resembles the real original and neighboring teeth.

Then, how is CEREC used?

There are analogous designs that are usually brought to play in the use of CEREC and will hereby list some of them.

* Correlation
When you come to the dentist, you may have in your possession a good image of the tooth you want replaced. The dentist will then take it and using computer software program create a compromise between the original tooth and the image that will fit the gum space. Of course if you don't have the image the dentist is always in possession of a model for such software use and the results are good natural looking tooth.

* Extrapolation
There are those times when the neighboring tooth is rugged, unusual and not fitting for automatic methods like the correlation. The dentist will hence build the tooth from the very beginning to enable a resultant good tooth.

* Function
This can be said to be a coupling of correlation and extrapolation. As far as correlation goes, the dentist can edit out the bad spot and replace with another software generated shape and when the other neighboring tooth doesn't fit hand in glove with the desired CEREC a new design is made to make it fit.

* Dental Database
Cerec is used to allow for average tooth derived from many other teeth data available in the database, especially when there are no images.

* Endocrown
The treatment of the root canal called the endodontic treatment leaves a hole. CEREC is therefore used to fill this hole and one is left with a tooth that none will be the wiser to know if a hole existed in the first place.

* Veneer
Back to the amusement of friends as regards the poor leaning and crooked shape of the tooth after the workings of the dentist. All hope though seemingly lost is not lost as through veneer the CEREC is used to reshape the tooth. The restorer is wrapped around it without removal of the sitting structure and well restored, no laughter and amusement again.

CEREC is an indirect restoration that eventually, well, leaves one with a beautiful tooth almost as you had it in the first place
