If you are online browsing for a home based business opportunity, odds are you feel like you are taking a trip through the hype machine. Make $20,000/mo, Make $250,000/yr, Be an internet MILLIONAIRE! You and I have seen all of these claims. Those numbers are astronomical to many people, so how do you see through the hype and find out what is for real and what isn’t. Maybe I can help.

First of all, don’t be so intimidated by the hype or huge numbers. Every website that you see will be advertising some pretty phenomenal earning potential. The reason is that there are people in those companies that actually make that money. Those people really can teach you to make that kind of income. Nobody can guarantee that, because a lot will depend on you, since it will be your home business, only with their help and support. As a mentor, lets say I make $15,000/mo working 5 or 6 hours per day. That is not the norm for the average Joe out there but it is for me. How do I convey that on my website without making it sound like a bunch of hype? There really isn’t a good way. I go so far as to have my phone number, Skype and AIM screen names on my site for people to contact me and ask any questions they want. A surprisingly low number actually take that kind of initiative. They would rather go on believing that everything they see cant be for real or they could never make that money, and that’s a shame.

Prior to working online, I did hiring in another commission job where I was very successful and mentored people to six-figure incomes. However, there was one thing that never failed to shock me. If I posted an ad looking for candidates and listed the income at $35,000/yr, I would have 7 or 8 times the response than if I posted the EXACT SAME AD and listed the income at $100,000. How is that possible??? Apparently, there are a lot of people with low expectations of themselves out there. The easy way out is to take the low paying job and have no risk of disappointment, but there is also no potential for extreme success. I always posted the ad with the $100,000 listed. The reason was that even though the response was drastically lower, I spoke to only motivated professionals that were much easier to work with. I try to keep it the same way online. Im not into people that are searching for a work at home business simply because they are too lazy to go to work. I want to mentor people that are enthusiastic about their new business and will take some ownership in making it successful. If you can bring that to the table, I can show you how to make money and enjoy it.

My main point is this, if someone really can teach you how to make the money they claim, then it is not hype (see my article on getting a good mentor if you dont know how to find the right person to assist you ). Maybe it has just never been a reality to you yet. If you continue to live in fear of taking a chance on yourself and your success, then that money will continue to be a pipe dream. Change your mindset. Instead of seeing 6 figure income numbers and immediately trying to dismiss them as hype, scam, or jargon…maybe you should go ahead and make a genuine effort to achieve them. You may surprise yourself.
