HGH Test Results
Article Summary: Growth hormone is being tested to get the results on growth deficiencies, pituitary gland's function reduction and pituitary tumours.
Growth hormone is being tested to get the results on growth deficiencies, pituitary gland's function reduction and pituitary tumours. The tests for HGH level include growth hormone stimulation test, suppresion test, somatomedin C, and somatotropin hormone test.
To identify HGH deficiency and excessive HGH, we must conduct the somatotropin test. Firstly, blood sample must be taken one hour after sleep to get an accurate readings. For men, 5ng/ml is the normal level of HGH and around 10ng/ml for women. As for children, it would be around 10ng/ml as well but for newborns the range is between 10-40ng/ml. However, if there is excessive level of HGH will result in gigantism and acromegaly. If HGH level deficiency will lead to dwarfism.
The high accuracy indicator of HGH level in blood is the Somatomedin C test. This test is done to detect any pituitary abnormalities and cromegaly. The best part about this test is that it is not affected by time, activity or diet. For an adult, the normal HGH level in this test is between 42-110 ng/ml. For girls between 0-8 years old, it would be 7-110 ng/ml and for boys it is between 4-87 ng/ml. However, for girls 9-10 years old, the level is increased to 39-186 ng/ml and for boys it is between 26-98 ng/ml. Lastly, for girls 11-13 years old, the ideal level of HGH is 66-215 ng/ml and for boys would be 44-207ng/ml. The result of excessive level of HGH will lead to gigantism and acromegaly.
Another test is the Growth Hormone stimulation test or in another name, it is called the insulin tolerance or arginine test. It is to test the ability of the body to produce human growth hormone. To conduct this test, a substance known as HGH Releasing Factor is used. The Growth Hormone stimulation test is able to give a more accurate result than others. The ideal level of HGH for this test is 10 ng/ml. If there is a decrease in HGH level means it is pituitary deficiency.
The very last test we have to determine the level of HGH is the growth hormone suppression test. It is also known as glucose loading test. This test is able to determine the excessive baseline level of human growth hormone. This test requires two different blood samples. The first is to be taken before glucose is given and the second one is to be taken two hours after the glucose has been given and injested. Then the HGH level is based on the loading of glucose. Normally, the result for suppressed HGH level is around 3 ng/ml. If it is around 5 ng/ml then it is a sign of acromegaly.
