Discover the different Teeth Whitening Methods and find out you can get professional results at home

Article Summary: It is estimated that Americans will spend near enough to $2 billion on Teeth Whitening products this year, making it the most frequent 'cosmetic practice' being administered. In actuality, about 10 million Americans will use some form of professional whitening practice, but becoming more common are the Diy whitening alternatives.

Seeing a professional will be more expensive, and reality is most of the methods accessible to Dentists, such as Toothpastes and Bleaching-kits, are available to the people in general via the internet, mail-order and even over-the-counter from drug-stores and supermarkets. The obvious exception would be in the situation where you chose structural modifications to your teeth, like Porcelain Veneers or Bonding - which actually modify the shape and size of your teeth. These methods can cost you anything from $300 - $1200 for each tooth, turning them into an alternative that is not readily available to one and all.

For a lot less money, and without making any reverseless structural changes to your teeth, we can select from the alternatives of Toothpastes, Whitening Strips and Bleaching systems. The one procedure that rises to the top as being the most effective in terms of cost is Bleaching. Bleaching sounds dangerous, I mean putting bleach in your mouth does not seem to be the most intelligent of all ideas, but the actuality is that this method has been used for many years and the past tells us that it is very safe. The ADHA actually suggests that "Bleaching is effective in lightening most stains caused by age, tobacco, coffee, and tea. Based on clinical studies, 96 percent of patients with these kinds of stains experience some lightening effect".

Before we take an upclose look at Bleaching methods, we'll browse over the less-effective approaches of teeth whitening (Whitening Toothpastes and Whitening Strips).

Whitening Toothpastes:
Many Toothpastes use quite potent chemicals that actually act as abrasive that etch away the enamel, which is definitely an undesirable side-effect. Some people demonstrate a slight improvement in brightness when they use Whitening Toothpastes, but because a Toothpaste isn't exposed to your teeth for very long it isn't able to penetrate deep enough to have much effect.

Whitening Strips:
Whitening strips are pressed against the top and lower teeth and normally need to be worn for 30 minutes a day (twice daily) for 7-14 days. Whitening strips do actually work, but because they cannot get into all the nooks and crannies and gaps between teeth, the results can sometimes be less desirable than anticipated.

Toothpastes and Whitening Strips do display some effect, but in actuality they offer nothing close to the effectiveness of using a Peroxide-based Bleaching system. There are so many different Bleaching methods available today that you could literally write a book on the matter. As an overview, the approaches can be broken into 2 main groups: (i) D.I.Y. kits (ii) Professionally Administered Bleaching.

DIY Bleaching Kits:
To prevent the bleaching gel from leaking onto your gums and into your mouth, a bleaching kit that offers a custom molded tray is by far a better choice. A good bleaching kit will use a Peroxide gel that has around 22% Peroxide (not too weak, not too strong) and won't be full of useless fillers and flavors.

Professionally Administered Bleaching:
Using a professional gives more people the peace-of-mind knowing that they are being tendered to by someone who has years of experience, but in reality the one active ingredient (the Peroxide gel) is more than likely the same as you get with DIY kits. The big difference with most professionally administered systems is that they will use a custom fitting tray or a method that applies the gel without a tray.

In the past, Teeth Whitening was a phrase that was strictly related to treatment you could receive only from your Dentist. But that has changed, because now you have a lot of solutions. Teeth Whitening is a mammoth market and new alternatives are coming to the fore continuously.

Whitening Strips often provide blotchy results because they only aim at the face of the teeth and fail to delve into the gaps and cracks between teeth. Whitening Toothpastes do work, but the active component is weak, and is not exposed to your teeth long enough to deliver hasty results. These techniques have demonstrated slight but at times differentiated effects, and if you're Okay with that, you will save money.

Porcelain Veneers and Bonding are excellent options, but when you envisage the cost of between $300 and $1200 per tooth, the majority of us basically can't afford this approach. Add to that the realization that your teeth are going to be grinded back, and reshaped irreversibly - this is clearly not an option for the white-livered.

That leaves Bleaching. This procedure is both affordable and extremely effective. You get consistently white teeth, it doesn't take much time to administer and you do not need to be subjected to any structural changes to your teeth. But the most attractive characteristic of this method is that you can select the method to occur in the comfort of your own home, or you can have it administered by a professional.

As a final outcome, you want a technique that delivers whiter and brighter teeth, you want consistency and you do not want to re-finance the house to pay for your new white teeth.
