The one thing every business in the world has in common is a business model. No, a business model isn't someone who struts around town in fashionable clothes telling everyone about your business; a business model is like a game plan a coach uses to map out a path to success. If you are starting a wholesale DVD business, you should have a business model that will not only make running your business fun and interesting, but also profitable. Let's take a look at a few different business models you can use that will make running your business a joy.

When most people shop for DVDs, they are looking for the hottest new titles and the latest releases that have just hit the market. By stocking new releases and Hollywood blockbusters, you are ensuring a constant stream of new traffic and new customers to your online store year round, but there are drawbacks. Since there are so many places to buy the same basic DVDs, you are competing against every major DVD store out there. You are going to need excellent prices or free shipping or some other kind of gimmick to really set yourself apart from the pack to make this business model work.

One direction that many wholesale DVD stores go in is with a themed store. You can have a store that stocks only the best high testosterone action movies or ones that simply sell romantic love stories. You could have a store that only sells special interest discs like wrestling and Ultimate Fighting and so on. A themed store is a great way to build repeat business since your store name will become synonymous with whatever kind of DVD you choose to ship. The big problem many themed stores face is building that initial customer base. You had better have some cash reserves to keep you afloat during the lean months at the start to get you through.

Superstores like Wal-Mart have shown that basing a business model strictly on discount shopping can not only work, it can work very, very well, so why not have an online wholesale DVD business with nothing but discount and on sale items? Of course, you won't be able to sell the hottest new releases, but that doesn't mean that people won't spend hours on your website picking through your inventory like some kind of giant online yard sale. The truth is that everyone loves a bargain, and if you can stock enough of an inventory, you can make quite a nice living on selling only discount, on sale titles.

Finally, if you want to take on a store of this size, why not do all of the above? Your store will have to be pretty large in size, and it may be something you have to work your way up to, but if you can become large enough that you have separate sections for new releases, themed items and discount items, you can become the one stop shop that everyone who is shopping online is searching for.
