Nowadays, many children love to solve and learn from doing puzzles, puzzle solving being a pleasant activity for people of all ages. There are many types of age- appropriate puzzles which require physical manipulation or which rely on thought for solutions. The main idea is that puzzles develop the creativity and the imagination of your kids, being not only a fun activity but also an educational one.

Some of the puzzles for children which require physical manipulation are "jigsaw puzzles". These items usually include a base and pieces of wood or other materials that fit into an area of the base. A jigsaw puzzle which is meant for young children usually presents scenes from famous stories, food, numbers, the alphabet, animals and people with different occupations and such puzzles are recommended for very young children, who are beginners in solving puzzles.

For elder children, most "jigsaw puzzles" include scenes from the most popular movies, different places from all over the world, historical events, landscapes and famous people. Furthermore, there are also puzzles that are involved in a game context, for example those that offer clues in order to solve a mystery. Another type of puzzle for children is the sliding puzzle, which has small plastic cases, usually eight, with one empty space. The child must move one piece at a time, trying to put the pieces into the adequate relationship in order to show the whole picture.

There are also types of puzzles that rely on vision and include word searches. According to the age of the child, words are embedded in a wide range of letters which are arranged in one or more directions. The items meant for younger children have words which only go to the left while the ones for elder children have words that may be arranged horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

The rebus puzzle requires not only vision but also thought because children must understand what the pictures represent and they must combine that with the meaning of words in order to make sense of the puzzle. Furthermore, "jigsaw puzzles" are entertaining but also creative, enabling children to develop their thinking but also to socialize with other kids.

The main benefit of puzzles for children is the fact that they develop their imagination, their creativity and even their self-respect. Once they will have solved a puzzle, they will be more confident and they will want to try others, more difficult. Thus, children become familiar to challenges and they learn to overcome them with patience. These "jigsaw puzzles "represent the ideal birthday gift for your children and if you are considering such a gift it is important to know that puzzles are of all sizes and all shapes, so that you can surprise your kid with a pleasant but also useful gift.

Puzzles will enable your children develop their grammar, spelling and thinking skills. Furthermore, crossword puzzles represent an efficient manner of improving the vocabulary and spelling skills of your children, at the same time keeping their mind flexible. Jigsaw puzzles are a great way of developing hand-eye coordination and problem solving skills, at the same time enabling your children to have fun. All types of "jigsaw puzzles" have some sort of educational value and the skills acquired by children who complete such puzzles represent a foundational part of learning. The most developed activities in this process are the abilities to reason, deduce, analyze and develop problem solving skills.
