Every year when you start being fed up with winter and fortunately realize spring is just around the corner, you realize you've put on a bit of weight over the cold months so you think some changes in the way you eat would do you good. You promise yourself to toss all junk food and sweets and start eating healthy foods that will help in your weight loss. Chances are, though, that what you start eating doesn't do anything for you, because you don't pay enough attention and make mistakes in your choices. Make those mistakes no more and deal with some myths once and for all, to be able to really incorporate healthy foods into your diet.
Movies, books, specialists all seem to agree that yogurt is good for you and it's a great way to provide your body with energy and nutrients but not extra weight, so a vast majority of people trying to shed a few pounds eat yogurt day after day. It's true that yogurt is good for you and can help support your weight loss, but not if it's loaded with artificial sweeteners, which is why you should eat yogurt that is natural, no fruit, no flavoring whatsoever, and preferably one that says on the label that it contains probiotics. That way you'll be providing your body with healthy bacteria that supports your digestive system, so you will be supporting your weight loss. If you can't stomach the taste of plain yogurt, try mixing it with fresh fruit or a bit of natural honey, lowering the amount of the mixed in item with time so you can end up eating just your probiotics packed yogurt in a few short weeks.
You've probably heard that you should eat more fruit and vegetables if you want to loose weight, but that is something you need to think through. As far as fruit, just because they are all natural doesn't mean they don't pack big amounts of sugars. It's good for you to eat a serving of blueberries for their antioxidants or oranges for Vitamin C, but learn the size of servings before you start eating. Additionally, look into nutritional values and try to pick fruit that has the least amount of sugars and the most vitamins and nutrients. And remember that fruit is filling, so if you eat a banana, don't top it off with a sandwich for your afternoon snack. As for veggies, choose them wisely as well, remembering that starchy potatoes are not as good for your weight loss plan as crunchy carrots are, and cooked vegetables have less value than raw ones.
Finally whether it's something you've heard, read or thought up on your own, you probably consider giving up bread to be one of the most important things you can do to start loosing weight. It's only partially true, though. If you stop eating puffed up breads, especially made with white flour, you'll be doing yourself a big favor, but if you give up bread altogether, chances are you'll be making up for it by eating more in general. A great compromise is to limit your bread consumption and to choose dark, dense breads, preferably ones with seeds and short sell by date. Those breads fill you up for a long time while providing you with additional nutrients without the artificial coloring and flavoring, making them quite a reasonable choice for a good breakfast or mid day meal. Now that you know a bit more about eating to loose weight, there is nothing stopping you from making the most of it, so start eating better, get more active and watch your body get into shape.
