No matter what kind of advertising material you are using, you have to grab the customer’s attention right away. In most cases, you only have a few seconds to convince the reader that your ad is worth reading. In a brochure, the words at the top of the front page are critical. On posters, the words that stand out will determine their success or failure. And on postcards, the way you address the recipients on the front are vital.

Here are some tips for creating attention grabbing headlines on any type of marketing material.

Offer a Solution to a Problem
Your business should offer a solution to some problem. (If it doesn’t, it probably isn’t going to succeed). Write a headline that emphasizes the solution that you offer. For example

NEED BETTER WEBSITE CONTENT? NO PROBLEM! CALL US TODAY!
This is a simple, yet effective headline. It presents a problem that your target customers have, and lets them know that you can fix it for them.

Use Customer Testimonials
There is no better ad in the world than a positive customer testimonial. Why not place one in the prominent area of your next marketing campaign? When you design your next poster printing project, include some words from a happy customer at the top. For instance:

“They produced excellent content in an incredibly short time. I was amazed.”

Again, this is a simple headline, but it works. Customer testimonials are always a good idea.

Statistics and Claims
If you have some stats to back up your claims about how great your company is, use them in a headline. Customers are often swayed by numbers that make a company stand out. Here is an example:

ONE COMPANY SAW A 300% INCREASE IN WEB TRAFFIC AFTER JUST ONE MONTH!
That sounds impressive, doesn’t it? If you think so, your readers probably will, too. Just be sure that you can back up the claims that you use. If possible, print the source of your claim right by the headline.

Say Something Drastic
If you can come up with an attention grabbing phrase that readers will not be able to resist, use it. After all, the purpose of the headline is to get the readers to investigate your ad further. Here is a sample:

YOU CAN TURN WORDS INTO DOLLARS!
Just enough to get the customer’s attention.

Ask the Customer Something
Another great way to entice the customer to read further is to include a question in your headline. The more thought-provoking the question, the better. Of course, it should have something to do with your business; otherwise it might not attract the right customers. An example:

DO YOU WISH MORE PEOPLE WOULD VISIT YOUR WEBSITE?
Bingo. With one simple question, you have targeted your market. At the same time, you have asked a compelling enough question that many readers will want to read on. That is the purpose of a good headline.
